Analytical Chemistry Scientist Location: Beerse, Belgium Duration: 12 months contract Hours: 40h On-site role Imagine your next role as an Analytical Chemistry Scientist who specializes in mass spectrometry and will collaborate with the Advanced Material Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group. About the department: AMCI is an international and diverse multidisciplinary team of scientists leading advanced characterization and mechanistic understanding of our drug substances and drug products and also leading analytical investigations for commercial and R&D portfolios. Within AMCI, the Advanced Molecular Analysis (AMA) team is a group of analytical centers of excellence in structure elucidation (by high-resolution Mass Spectrometry and NMR), trace organic analysis, excipient & polymer characterization, and oligonucleotide & peptide analytics. Main Responsibilities: Provide high-quality Mass Spectrometric support for a variety of synthetic molecule products (also including peptides, oligonucleotides, etc.) in the J&J portfolio. Participate in supporting diverse investigations on the J&J development and commercial portfolio using cutting-edge high-resolution mass spectrometers and other analytical equipment. Work independently with a high level of productivity to solve challenging analytical problems, including the ability to juggle competing priorities. Present data and reports on project status at individual, group, and departmental meetings. Maintain a safe work environment in compliance with all applicable environmental, health, regulatory requirements, GMP, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate for this position should have: A PhD in (Analytical) chemistry, biochemistry or related field, OR a master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field with 3 years of relevant experience is required. Practical experience with High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry is required. Experience with Mass Spectrometry-based structure elucidation of small molecules is desirable. Expertise in Gas Chromatography – mass spectrometry and/or knowledge of extractable & leachable testing is an asset. Hands-on experience in troubleshooting laboratory instruments and equipment is considered an advantage. Competencies: Fast learner with scientific curiosity, self-steering, proactive, and creative. Open-minded, and able to work together as one team in a global environment. Good written and spoken communication and presentation skills in English.
