1 Educational Support Assistant & 1 Educational Support Teacher (German section)


The European School Brussels III is looking for:

1 Educational Support Assistant (M/F, ca. 28 h/week) & 1 Educational Support Teacher (M/F, ca. 3h/week)

for the German* section of the primary school - Fixed-term contract

*Candidates must speak German (C1/C2 level or native).

The European Schools are an intergovernmental organisation offering multilingual and multicultural education.


The Educational support teachers are hired under the employee status.

The Educational support teacher :

  • Will work with pupils who need Educational Support and who have special educational needs (learning, emotional, behavioural and/or physical needs);
  • Will use appropriated differentiated teaching methods and support pupils in developing appropriate learning strategies using adapted teaching material;
  • Will undertake detailed observation and assessment and support Class and Subject teachers in early identification of educational support needs;
  • Will decide on the most appropriate teaching strategies for the pupil, in consultation with the class or subject teacher and any other professionals working with the pupil;
  • Will write a Learning Plan (group or individual) in cooperation with the class/subject teacher;
  • Will liaise and work under the coordination of the Support Coordinator;
  • Will liaise and cooperate with the Class or Subject teachers and the other members of the team during the learning process, advising them on the various learning profiles of pupils with specific learning needs and special education needs and innovative approaches in teaching and learning to cater for those needs;
  • Liaise with external experts and therapists working under tripartite agreement
  • Will evaluate the pupil's progress;
  • Will keep records of achievement in order to have accessible information when needed;
  • Will liaise with parents about the child's progress and needs in cooperation with the class/subject teacher;
  • Will attend meetings and training work.

The Educational support assistant:

  • Assists student(s) with specific needs ;
  • Assists teachers in working with a Special Needs student(s);
  • Is involved in the special support given to the student(s) & monitoring of this support;
  • Works closely with the support coordinator, school psychologists & class teachers;
  • Participates in various school activities & meetings;
  • Monitors student(s) with Specific needs and help him/them with additional explanations when needed.

    Qualifications and training:

  • Native speaker or thorough knowledge of Dutch (C1/C2 level certified if not native speaker.
  • Knowledge of at least one second working language of the school (French/German/English) would be an advantage.
  • Very good knowledge of other languages of existing sections in the school (asset).
  • University degree (validated by the national authorities) permitting to teach in the primary/nursery cycle.
  • Qualification and experience in the area of Educational Support/Inclusive education/special education needs.
  • European citizen or person having a valid working permit in Belgium.

Qualification in the field of educational support, inclusive education, special education needs would be considered as an asset

Educational support teachers:

We are offering contracts in accordance with the Service regulations for the locally recruited teachers in the European schools (Ref.: 2016-05-D-11-en-14) available on the EE website: www.eursc.eu

  • Starting day: 1 September 2024
  • Schedule: ca. 3 hours per week
  • Duration: the contract will run from 1 September 2024 until 31 August 2025. A renewal of the contract is under certain circumstances possible.
  • Gross salary: 53.990,64 € per year for a full-time post (25.5h per week)
  • Location: Brussels, Belgium

Educational support assistants:

  • Start date: 01/09/2024
  • Type of contract: Fixed-term contract until August 31, 2025 with possibility of extension.
  • Schedule: The weekly work schedule will be defined according to the specific educational needs of the student(s) in your care
